Product Overview

About This Grade

YD-5031 is a white, slightly translucent EVA hot melt adhesive in granule form, developed for attaching wrapped drinking straws onto single-serve beverage cartons. Rather than bonding the raw straw directly, the adhesive is intended to form a bond between two specific packaging surfaces: the outer straw wrapper (such as BOPP film, PE film, or paper wrapper) and the outside surface of the laminated or printed beverage carton.

Intended for automated straw applicator cycles

Beverage filling and packaging lines require reliable initial tack to hold straw packets in position during short compression cycles as cartons move toward downstream shrink-wrapping, multipack bundling, or tray-packing stations. YD-5031 is intended for automated straw attachment applications. Actual setting behavior and holding performance should be verified under your target line speed, compression time, and ambient conditions.

Low melt viscosity for precision dot or short-bead dispensing

With a melt viscosity of 1000±300 mPa·s at 180°C, YD-5031 is intended for precision dot or short-bead dispensing in automated straw attachment applications. Dispensing consistency and nozzle cut-off should be verified under the actual application temperature, pressure, nozzle configuration, and line speed.

Balanced hold for carton handling and consumer removal

Straw attachment requires a balance between bond strength during packing and handling and ease of removal before use. The required performance depends on the straw wrapper, carton coating, and application conditions. We recommend testing bond retention and peel behavior on your actual substrate combination before production approval.

Manufactured in our ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certified facility in Zhejiang. REACH and RoHS test reports (SGS) are available for applicable granule grades upon request. Free samples and the complete Technical Data Sheet (TDS) are provided for line qualification.

Typical laboratory values for reference only. Operating parameters (application temperature, open time, set time, and peel performance) should be verified on your specific substrates and dispensing equipment. Contact us for the full Technical Data Sheet.

Application Compatibility

What to Confirm Before Testing

Bonding performance in straw attachment depends heavily on the surface treatment of both the carton and the straw wrapper. Before running a line trial with YD-5031, share the following details with our technical team to confirm compatibility:

  • Carton Outer Surface: Specify whether the bonding zone is PE-coated board, UV-varnished, aqueous-coated, film-laminated, uncoated paperboard, or printed paperboard.
  • Straw Wrapper Material: Specify the outer wrapper material (e.g., BOPP film, PE film, or paper) and surface treatment level.
  • Application System: Confirm your dispensing method (non-contact jetting nozzle, contact dot applicator, or short-bead nozzle) and operating temperature range.
  • Line Speed & Compression: Provide your target cartons per minute (CPM) and the compression time available immediately after straw placement.
  • Storage & Distribution Conditions: Let us know if the filled cartons undergo cold-chain refrigeration, high-humidity condensation, or warm ambient transport, so we can verify bond retention under your actual climate conditions.

When to Re-Verify Compatibility

Always conduct a fresh bonding and peel test whenever you change straw wrapper suppliers, switch carton overprint varnishes, or adjust applicator line speed—even if the carton dimensions remain the same.

Technical FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About YD-5031

1. What exact surfaces does YD-5031 bond in straw attachment?

YD-5031 is intended to bond the outer surface of a straw wrapper, such as BOPP film, PE film, or paper, to the outside surface of a beverage carton. Actual adhesion depends on the wrapper material, surface treatment, carton coating, and application conditions. We recommend testing your specific substrate combination before production approval.

2. Is YD-5031 suitable for automated straw applicator machines?

With a melt viscosity of 1000±300 mPa·s at 180°C, YD-5031 is intended for automated dot and short-bead straw attachment applications. Compatibility should be verified through sample testing under your actual operating conditions, including nozzle configuration, firing frequency, compression time, and line speed.

3. What is the recommended application temperature for YD-5031?

While melt viscosity is measured at a standard reference temperature of 180°C, optimal tank, hose, and nozzle temperatures depend on your dispensing equipment and cycle rate. Refer to the current Technical Data Sheet (TDS) or contact our technical team for operating temperature guidelines.

4. Can YD-5031 be used on refrigerated or cold-chain beverage cartons?

Beverage cartons stored in refrigerated environments or exposed to surface condensation require specific low-temperature bond retention on the carton coating. If your products undergo chilled storage or cold-chain distribution, please inform our team so we can test bond retention under your target storage temperatures or recommend a cold-resistant grade.

5. Is YD-5031 approved for direct food contact?

In straw attachment applications, YD-5031 is applied solely to the outside of the sealed beverage carton and the outside of the straw wrapper, meaning there is no direct contact with the beverage or the drinking straw itself. Please note that general plant certifications (ISO 9001/14001/45001) and REACH/RoHS reports do not constitute food-contact approval. If your target market or customer audit requires specific indirect food-packaging compliance documentation, contact our export team to verify available regulatory certificates before ordering.

6. What information should I provide when requesting a free sample?

To help us recommend the appropriate testing parameters and sample grade, please provide: (1) carton outer surface type, (2) straw wrapper material, (3) applicator machine type and operating temperature, (4) production speed (CPM), and (5) storage and transport temperature range.
